Thirsting for Parental Approval
While enjoying a DVD episode from the 1st season of
“Heroes” I watched a heart breaking scene wherein the
villain “Sylar” failed, yet again, to win his mother’s
approval.

Isn’t it amazing that, despite our age and our intellect, part
of us seems to remain a child, that still thirsts for it’s
parents' approval?

In the movie “Parenthood” a character remarked…

When working with the turmoil, that so many of us feel
towards our parents, it could be possilble to feel anger,
couldn’t it?

Sometimes a little perspective can go a long way. It could
help to remember that most of our parents were
20-something when we were born. How many brilliant
20-year-olds who just happen to be child-rearing-experts
have you ever met? Yeah, me neither!

When addressing the…

a stand-up comic once said… yes you’re 20-something
and your body is lean and tight,
but you don’t know sh*t.
So strike a pose...

and shut the fu*k up!

Whether the parental debacles that created our childhood
wounds were the cold and calculated product of a
malicious mind…

or simply the good-hearted blunder of a silly 20-
something…

I have never encountered an emotional injury that could not
be soothed
{if not healed} by Buddha’s Mental Yogas.

But why go to all that effort? Could it really be worth it to
tame our childhood wounds? What is the pay off, and
while were at it,
what is the meaning of life?
