"The Proof of the Pudding is in the Tasting"
This is so cool! I was just wondering what I’d write about
next and then a very honest fellow wrote me saying:

“I’m a little wary because some people
told me you were not who you say you are.”

Of course I could be a wise-ass and write:

Just because some folks tell you I’m
a “Big Mac” doesn’t mean Mc Donald’s is
going to serve me for lunch!
Om Mani Padme Hum,

Tibetan-Buddhist: Monk, Teacher, Healer and Tantrika
P.S. Remember, this live telephone teaching or instructional CD is actually my
way of saying “
thank you” for the medium or small donation you could make this
month. And also bear in mind, that your donations are crucial to the founding of
San Diego’s first
“Buddha of Compassion Monastery and Meditation
Center.”
The next generation of American nuns and monks are counting on you.

Buddha's Lost Secrets:
Tips on Meditation and the Spiritual path - idea #199
from your Buddhism expert
But no, that is far too beneath me. I’d rather use this
opportunity to explore Buddha’s
only standard for
evaluating a teacher.

In the
Sutta of the Kalama’s Dilemma we read that one
day Lord Buddha was trucking down the road, just
grooving on the wonders of the present moment with a
handful of disciples; when the town fathers, of the city of
the  Ka-la-mas,  flagged them down.
"Lord Buddha, they explained, we’s got a heap a trouble!
So many teachers with so many instructions come
through our town. All the teachers are different and all
the instructions are different but they each have two
things in common:

#1) They each Praise themselves and their doctrines
#2) and they each Denigrate all the other teachers and
their instructions!
Who are we to rely upon?"
Lord Buddha enumerated an extensive list, but I’ll just
give you it’s essence. The Enlightened One explained
that you would
NOT be able to identify the most
trustworthy teacher and instruction by:
•        fame,
•        popularity,
•        prestige,
•        logic,
•        intuition,
•        personal preference, or…
•        convention.

Convention tells us that if we want to hire a personal
assistant we need to:
#1 put an ad in the paper,
#2 schedule three interviews, and
#3 be quite meticulous to check their;
   A) Resume,
   B) Credentials and
   C) References.

But Lord Buddha, taught that it was
NOT wise to rely
upon Convention! How then shall we know, really know,
whether or not a teacher and his instructions could be
effective at helping us to progress upon the path of Love,
Peace, Insight and Happiness?

Just as the British used to say, “
the proof of the
pudding is in the tasting
,” and Jesus taught,
you shall know a tree by it’s fruit,” Lord Buddha
explained that

it is the Efficacy of the Teachings that
             Validates the Teacher.

Rather than hide behind a paper lion of resume,
credentials, references and reputation; a true teacher will
put his money where his mouth is.
So then, what are a true teacher’s resume, credentials
and references? They are simply his Compassion and
Insight as reflected by

the Power of his teachings to Heal the
                  hearts of his students.
Does that mean we gotta run around collecting
testimonials?
Nope! You see, it’s simple!

#1 Find a teacher,
#2 receive his blessings,
#3 listen to his teachings and then…
#4 practice his instructions!

After you have practiced his teachings twice a day, every
day, for 90 days, with
out: negotiating, diluting or
“improving” them; simply notice your results. Are you
more Loving, Peaceful and Happy? Have you improved?
Have you become more of the happy camper you were
born to be? Have you become more of the wonderful
person that your dog already thinks you are?
Or, did you stay the same? Did you stagnate? Did you
get worse? After 90 days of practicing the teachings, you
have received, do you:
•        dress in black,
•        breath funny,
•        carry a light saber and…
•        do your friends call you, “Darth Vader?”
It’s easy. When selecting a teacher we have three
choices. The first extreme is to NOT judge your teacher
or his instructions, or what I like to call, the Jonestown
approach. That is when you mindlessly do what ever the
teacher instructs. Oh please
don’t choose that option.
And, while you’re at it, please don’t drink the Kool Aid!
Buddha is so cool; instead of merely giving them a quick,
fortune-cookie answer and toddling off into the sunset,
he made real sure they got it. Before telling them how
they would know which teacher and instruction to rely
upon, he first told them how they would NOT know which
ones to embrace.
The second extreme is Prejudice. That is when we allow
the tyranny of our preconceptions to pre-judge the
teacher and his instructions. This foolish type of pre
judging is usually based on the superficial
preconceptions of:
•        fame,
•        popularity,
•        prestige,
•        logic,
•        intuition,
•        personal preference, or…
•        convention;
which is exactly what Buddha warned us against! Why
could this be a foolish cause of action?

#1 It causes us to shut our selves off from any real
benefit that could be available through that teacher or his
instructions and…

#2 it completely disregards Buddha’s advice! Hey man, if
you sincerely feel that your way is better than Buddha’s
way, then I am clearly
NOT the teacher for you. And by
the way, good luck!
Well then, if both failing to judge and pre-judging the
teacher are big, fat mistakes; what then is the Buddha’s
middle path between the two extremes?

Simple! Rather than NOT-judge or PRE-judge, the fully
enlightened one teaches us to simply
postpone
judgment until the results of practicing the teacher’s
instructions, twice daily, for 90 consecutive days…
manifests. Guys, this is a real easy deal to do.

This month I’ve been telling you about the teachings of
the
Karmic Dynamo. Once you go to that page, you’ll
read of the many supernatural benefits from this easy,
30 second practice. Now, instead of asking you to
believe either:
•        the Buddha,
•        the teacher of the first Dalai Lama
•        or myself…
because let’s face it, believing is just attachment;

so, rather than asking you to believe the Buddha, the
teacher of the first Dalai Lama, or myself; just run an
experiment. It’s easy!

FIRST, get your hands on a copy of Karmic Dynamo,

SECOND, listen to the CD and really give it your full attention.

THIRD, apply it’s instructions and explanations for just
30 seconds twice a day, every day, for 90 consecutive
days.

FOURTH, notice your results. Have you become happier
or crankier?

FIFTH, take action. If following the instructions of this
month’s CD have transformed you into a cranky bastard
then turn your back on me and never read any of my
essays ever again. But, if applying the easy teachings of
the Karmic Dynamo make you even a little more loving,
peaceful, happy, fortunate and energetic then perhaps
my instructional CDs could be worthy of your attention.

Listen, there is nothing spiritual about suspicion,
preconception or ignoring Buddha’s advice. So take
advantage of this month’s special discount and put my
teachings to the
test. You have nothing to lose but your
sufferings.
